Hello everyone!
My name is Ash Ecclestone and I’m a first-year student at Western University. I’m apart of the Arts & Humanities Faculty. I’m double majoring in SASAH and an Honours Specialization in English & Creative Writing Studies.
My Placement & Partners
Due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, Western Heads East is providing the opportunity to take on remote internships.
My internship is with Mikono Yetu, which is a non-profit organization completely run by women in Mwanza, Tanzania. Specifically, I’m working with adolescent girls who produce a media program called Msichana TV.
The goal of the program is to empower young women through financial stability, religion, creativity, and much more. Check out the link below for more information!
My Internship Goals
· Develop and structure weekly lessons for future volunteers with the ESL program, considering learning goals created by the Eagles group
· Support the girls in developing social media materials while further developing English language skills and confidence to facilitate English interviews / videos
· Enhance my collaboration & communication skills between my co-leads and girls in the media group
· Improve my personal knowledge regarding cultural differences and connecting over a language barrier
